Route 116 and Rusturf Tunnel

The Eastern Trail: Route 116

Emerging victorious from the Rustboro Gym, we turn our steps eastward towards Route 116, a verdant path leading to the Rusturf Tunnel. Route 116 introduces an array of trainers, wild Pokémon, and valuable items to help us in our journey.

Wild Encounters and Trainer Battles

The tall grass of Route 116 is home to Pokémon such as Nincada, Taillow, and Skitty. Be sure to capture a few, as expanding your team’s diversity can prove instrumental in future battles.

Several trainers wait along the route, ready to test your mettle. Don’t shy away from these battles as they are excellent opportunities to level up your Pokémon. Also, keep an eye out for double battles, where your tactical prowess can shine!

Securing Vital Items

Remember the lessons from our past explorations – there’s always a chance of hidden items along the path. You’ll find a few handy items on Route 116, including a Repel, a Potion, and an Ether.

Saving Peeko: A Side Quest

Halfway through Route 116, you’ll stumble upon Mr. Briney’s stolen Wingull, Peeko, and face another confrontation with Team Aqua. Be prepared for a quick tussle! After rescuing Peeko, you’ll earn the gratitude of Mr. Briney and unlock future boating opportunities.

Venturing into the Rusturf Tunnel

After handling Team Aqua and saving Peeko, it’s time to venture into the Rusturf Tunnel. This rocky passageway connects Route 116 and Verdanturf Town but is initially blocked by some rocks which can be cleared later using Rock Smash.

Encountering Whismur

The Rusturf Tunnel is the exclusive habitat of Whismur, a Normal-type Pokémon with the ability Soundproof, making it immune to all “sound-based” moves. This feature can be quite advantageous in future battles. So, don’t miss out on catching a Whismur!

A Brief Detour: Devon Goods Recovery

At the end of Route 116, you’ll meet the Devon Researcher from Petalburg Woods once again. He’ll inform you that the Devon Goods have been stolen by Team Aqua. This leads us to a brief detour back to Rustboro City and subsequently a new adventure at sea with Mr. Briney. But that’s a story for another time!

Exploring Route 116 and the Rusturf Tunnel is about more than progressing through the game. It’s about understanding your Pokémon team, applying your battle strategies, and indulging in the world of Pokémon. So, trainers, stay curious, stay ready, and enjoy every step of the journey. Until next time!
