What are Shiny Pokémon?
Shiny Pokémon are rare, alternate-colored versions of certain Pokémon species. They are incredibly rare and sought after by trainers for their unique appearance.
How to Increase Your Chances of Finding Shiny Pokémon
There are a few methods you can use to increase your chances of finding Shiny Pokémon:
- Masuda Method: This method involves breeding two Pokémon from different language games. The chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon using this method is 1 in 4096 (0.024%), which is much higher than the base chance of finding a Shiny Pokémon in the wild (1 in 4096 or 0.024%).
- Chain Fishing: By catching multiple Pokémon in a row without leaving the area, you can increase your chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon. The chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon increase with each Pokémon caught in the chain, up to a maximum of 1 in 1365 (0.073%).
- Using Lures or Super Rods: Using lures or Super Rods increases your chances of encountering Shiny Pokémon. The exact increase in chances is not known, but it is thought to be small.
- Shiny Charm: By completing the National Pokédex in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can obtain the Shiny Charm from the Game Director. The Shiny Charm increases the chance of finding Shiny Pokémon in the wild by an additional 3 times (1 in 1365 or 0.073%).
Tips for Shiny Hunting
- Be patient: Shiny hunting can be a long and tedious process, so it’s important to be patient and not get discouraged.
- Use Save Scumming: Save scumming involves saving the game before encountering a wild Pokémon, and then resetting the game if the Pokémon is not Shiny. This allows you to encounter the same Pokémon again and again until you find a Shiny.
- Use a Repel: Using a Repel will prevent non-Shiny Pokémon from appearing, allowing you to encounter the same Pokémon over and over until you find a Shiny.
- Use a Friend Safari: The Friend Safari is a special location in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet where you can encounter and catch Pokémon that are not normally found in the game. These Pokémon have a higher chance of being Shiny.
- Use the Masuda Method: As mentioned earlier, breeding two Pokémon from different language games increases your chances of hatching a Shiny Pokémon. This is the most reliable method for finding Shiny Pokémon, but it requires patience and a lot of breeding.
- Use a Pokémon with the Ability “Compound Eyes”: Pokémon with the Ability “Compound Eyes” have a higher chance of finding Shiny Pokémon in the wild. This Ability can be found on Pokémon like Volbeat, Illumise, and Masquerain.
- Use a Pokémon with the Move “Thrash”: The Move “Thrash” has a small chance of causing the Pokémon using it to go on a rampage, during which it will continuously use the move for several turns. If the Pokémon goes on a rampage and encounters a Shiny Pokémon, the Shiny Pokémon will be caught automatically. This can be a useful way to catch Shiny Pokémon that would normally be difficult to catch.
- Use a Pokémon with the Move “Sweet Scent”: The Move “Sweet Scent” can be used to attract wild Pokémon, increasing the chances of encountering a Shiny Pokémon. This is especially useful when used in combination with a Repel, as it allows you to encounter the same Pokémon over and over until you find a Shiny.
- Use the “Reset” Method: The “reset” method involves resetting the game repeatedly until a Shiny Pokémon appears. This method is not recommended, as it is time-consuming and may not be effective.
