In it, the player controls one of two teams and plays through a season of Major League Béisbol to reach the playoffs, where a championship is won. The game was designed by Canadian video game developer Extended Play and published by Electronic Arts. Triple Play 96 is considered one of the best Deportes games for the original Sega Genesis console along with the NBA Jam series.
