Super Mario Land
What is Super Mario Land All About
Super Mario Land is a 1989 side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy handheld console. It is the first Mario game to be released for the Game Boy and was also the first Mario game to be made by Nintendo R&D1, a team other than the original Super Mario Bros. development team. The game is set in the new setting of Sarasaland, instead of the Mushroom Kingdom, and introduces a new enemy named Tatanga.
In Super Mario Land, player will control Mario as he travels through the four worlds of Sarasaland, rescuing Princess Daisy from the evil alien Tatanga. The gameplay is similar to that of the original Super Mario Bros. games, with players jumping on enemies, collecting coins, and traversing through various obstacles to reach the end of each level.
Players can jump, run, and crouch to avoid enemies and obstacles. They can also break blocks by jumping on them, revealing coins or power-ups. The power-ups include the Super Mushroom, which makes Mario grow in size and increases his maximum health; the Fire Flower, which allows Mario to throw fireballs; and the Starman, which grants Mario temporary invincibility.
In addition to these traditional power-ups, Super Mario Land also introduces a few new ones such as a Carrot, that grants him the ability to shoot bullets and a flower that allows him to fly short distances by using a helicopter block.
The game is divided into four worlds, each with three levels. Each level has a unique layout, enemies, and obstacles. The player must reach the end of the level by avoiding obstacles and enemies, while collecting coins and power-ups.
At the end of each level is a boss battle against one of Tatanga's minions, who must be defeated in order to progress to the next level. Once all levels in a world are completed, the player must face off against Tatanga himself in a final boss battle.
Completing levels and collecting coins can also unlock bonus levels, in which the player must collect coins and reach the end of the level in a limited amount of time. Overall, Super Mario Land is a classic platformer game with a similar gameplay to Super Mario Bros., but with new power-ups and enemies, and set in a new world.
This game was well received by critics and was a commercial success, selling over 18 million copies worldwide. It was later re-released for the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in 2011, and the game is considered a classic for the Game Boy and Mario franchise.
