In the first chapter, players are introduced to the titular Poppy Playtime, who has a constant loop of “Fun Time” playing on her screen and singing about having fun time. The player enters a toy factory, which is deserted except for Huggy Wuggy. After solving a puzzle in order to open the security door (which requires them to input the code into a hidden keypad), they enter Huggy Wuggy’s room, where she tells them that it’s not just an ordinary doll; she has thoughts and feelings, so she needs to be played with regularly by someone. At first they don’t believe her, until they find evidence of her being violently shaken and thrown around the room before being finally broken apart. They acquire tips from Huggy Wuggy on how to solve puzzles in order to progress through the game. The objective is to find all 10 yellow (Endurance) cards and make their way out of the building.

Once you’ve played all three games and obtained the code for the train, you return to Mommy Long Legs who asks for your help in freeing Poppy from her case. After freeing her she offers to help you escape the factory by giving you a code that will activate your train. However, at this time she is immediately hijacked by Mommy Long Legs who takes her hostage and attempts to force you into playing games under threat of death.
